Channeling My Inner Picasso

I’ve always wanted to go on one of  those artsy dates where the couple engage in fun art stuff like ceramic baking, clay moulding, canvas painting, etc. Luckily for me, I found a few places in Lagos that offer these services but unluckily for me, my partner happened to be some thousands of miles away.

So I hit up S.I and we set up a girl date. We visited Paint and Bake, a ceramic cafe in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos. My first impression of the cafe when I walked in was the lovely and peaceful ambience which appealed to me very much. It wasn’t crowded and S.I and I were pretty much the only clients in there from the moment we got in till we left.

The cafe offers two major services; Ceramics Painting and Painting on Canvas. For ceramics painting, you choose a ceramic size and style, paint on it and they bake it for you but you cannot take your work home with you on that day. You will have to come back for it after a few days.  We opted for the canvas painting because we could take it home that same day. So we selected a canvas size and picked out a reference.

What I love about them is that they do not impose a reference image on you. You have the artistic freedom to choose any image or art work online that you’d like to recreate or you can straight up draw up one from your imagination (if you are into that).

I feel at this point I should put out a disclaimer that I am in no way an artist and the last time I ever painted anything was in secondary school so do not have high expectations for my art work lol. We had an instructor who was very patient and helpful. He gave us the adequate guidance throughout the session.  Our session lasted from 4:00pm – 7:00pm and it was exciting! Painting is actually therapeutic.

The canvas come in two sizes and the price  ranges from N5000 – N6000 while the price of the ceramics painting starts from N5500 depending on the shape and  size of the ceramics you select. External food is not allowed as the cafe shares a building with Chocolat Factory where you can get food and drinks while in your session.

This is a perfect date activity as it is a beautiful way to bond with each other. It is also a great activity for friend groups, corporate groups and children. Paint and Bake is located at 267A Etim Inyang Cresent, Victoria Island Lagos.
